Re: Chilton Williamson’s Column: A Practicing Catholic Considers Why “The Church” Is Wrong About Immigration

I agree with Williamson in his article about the "naïve" positions of many Roman Catholics towards immigration.

There are many other solutions for Mexico to end poverty rather than encouraging its people to migrate to the US or Europe and thus leave their homeland behind.

Both the US and Mexico are haunted by prospects of losing our countries to foreigners.

We Mexicans constantly fear losing our oil, our beautiful beaches and ultimately our identities to America.

At the same time, you are troubled by the illegal immigration you see throughout the U.S.

I assure you that Mexico does not have an active reconquista policy.

In any case I, as a Mexican, respect and support the U.S. and its right to defend the richness it has created for itself.

Whatever the circumstances are, we must together continue to share and understand other cultures for our human and moral development.

May God help Mexico and the U.S. to work together and provide us the wisdom to resolve our differences.
