10/24/09 - A Canadian Reader Names Brenda Walker "One Of The Best Immigration Writers In America"

From: Russell Bell (e-mail him)

Latino in America, the CNN two-part special that claims to provide insights into what it's like to be Hispanic in America, flopped in the ratings. The documentary failed despite heavy promotion in the days leading up to its airing.

Especially when compared to Black in America, a previous CNN production, the Latin version was a complete failure. Over two days, Black in America drew 2.1 and 2.6 million total viewers.

Latino in America drew 1 million and 848,000 watchers, respectively.

These disappointing numbers makes it hard for the anti-Lou Dobbs faction to make a case for firing him since his nightly program is consistently one of CNN's best performers. [CNN's special on Latinos Stirs Protest Against Anchor, by Brian Stelter, New York Times, October 22, 2009]

Bell retired from a major network five years ago to start a media consulting company.
