A "comprehensive immigration reform" champion changes from the Republican to the Democratic Party.[Specter Switches Parties; More Heft for Democrats, by Carl Hulse and Adam Nagourney, April 28, 2009]

Ho hum!

If Arlen Specter thinks by joining the Democrats he's gaining a new majority juggernaut, he's in for a rude awakening.

Specter is a political survivor and I've always liked his chances for Senate re-election propelled by liberal eastern Pennsylvania. But 2010 won't be kind to Democrats.

The air is slowly leaking out of the Obama balloon. And the combination of reality about the Democratic agenda setting in, its rampant spending and confused priorities will be a toxic mix.

Specter's party shift proves that he's playing from a position of weakness.

Whipple, who worked on Wall Street for 11 years, earned a B.A. at Washington and Lee University and a M.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. His third novel, Dasha, is available here. Previous Whipple letters about encouraging immigrants to go home and why immigration reform patriots should remain focused are here and here.
