In the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been repeated calls to release detained criminals and illegal aliens, on the theory that close quarters are dangerous to them. Of course the reason they're being detained is that they're a danger to the public.

The story of Ibrahm E. Bouaichi llustrates this:

Rape suspect who was freed due to coronavirus kills his accuser in Alexandria, police say

Ibrahm E. Bouiachi [sic] was indicted on rape charges last year. After being released due to the pandemic, police say he shot and killed his accuser.

Associated Press, WUSA9, August 7, 2020

The woman who accused Bouaichi of rape was Venezuelan immigrant Karla Dominguez, now deceased:

The Washington Post has the longest story, may be behind paywall:

Ibrahim E. Bouaichi’s lawyers argued that the virus was a danger to both inmates and their attorneys, and that Bouaichi should be freed awaiting trial. On April 9, over the objections of an Alexandria prosecutor, Circuit Court Judge Nolan Dawkins released Bouaichi on $25,000 bond, with the condition that he only leave his Maryland home to meet with his lawyers or pretrial services officials.

On July 29, Alexandria police say, Bouaichi, 33, returned to Alexandria and shot and killed Dominguez outside her apartment in the city’s West End.

When police couldn’t find Bouaichi after the slaying, they issued a video news release asking for the public’s help in locating him, declaring him “armed and dangerous.” Then on Wednesday morning, federal marshals and Alexandria police spotted Bouaichi in Prince George’s County and pursued him, causing Bouaichi to crash, authorities said. When the police went to arrest Bouaichi, they found he had apparently shot himself. He was reported to be in grave condition Thursday.

Bouaichi’s release from jail and the slaying of Dominguez represent a tragic side effect of the pandemic. As the coronavirus erupted in America, civil liberties advocates called for the release of large numbers of prisoners from jails and prisons in order to keep them from being infected and possibly dying in necessarily confined spaces.

If you ask me, it shows the tragic side effect of civil liberties advocates, who never seem to care about victims. Anyhow, when we hear that a Judge has done something lethal and dangerous, we always ask "What KIND of Judge?"

It turns out that the Judge who did this is path-breaking "First Black" Alexandria Circuit Court Judge Nolan Dawkins, pictured below:

Judge Dawkins has since retired, and couldn't be reached by the Washington Post for comment. In retirement, his friends and neighbors are planning to name an alley after him, and even possibly a high school.

I'm thinking that if they put up a statue to him, the Venezuelans should pull it down.
