Earlier: SOUTH AFRICA FARM ATTACKS IN MAY, EARLY JUNE: Two Elderly Whites Burned Alive, Others Stabbed And Shot

Eight deaths this month, and kidnappings and beatings with pipes and iron bars, etc.

  • Farm foreman Hennie Maritzon was murdered on a farm of the Department of Correctional Service near Hattingspruit and Glencoe, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.

Reports say the victim was carjacked while driving his truck across the farm.

Arrested was 47-year-old Thulani Mkhize, who was in possession of the stolen vehicle. Alleged accomplice Zenzele Buthelezi was detained.

  • A farmer in Balmoral, Mpumalanga province was fatally shot as he stepped out of his car upon arriving home.

Reports say two armed males abducted a neighbor and took him to a neighboring house on the estate, where a woman in her fifties was subdued and bound. Both were beaten with an iron pipe.

Unaware of the crime in progress, the woman’s husband arrived home and was promptly shot dead as he exited his vehicle.

The assailants entered a third home on the property, where they stole a gun safe by loading into a car stolen from the man they had killed.

One of the assailants was captured after the man who was bound managed to free himself and contact authorities. That assailant died of blood loss resulting from a self-inflicted injury.

  • A Mr. Van Zyl was fatally shot while feeding chickens at a farm in the Heatonville area near Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal province.

Upon being attacked by two assailants, Van Zyl attempted to flee but was shot.

  • Armed attackers held a 61-year-old farmer and his wife hostage while ransacking their home near Howick, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The farmer was shot in both thighs before the attackers made off with a flat-screen TV, cell phones, and other items.

  • A farm manager was accosted by four attackers as the victim stepped outside to tend to a power generator in the Paarl farms area in Western Cape province.

Firearms were stolen. No serious injuries or arrests were reported.

  • Update: An employee was arrested for murdering two elderly people at Klipfonteinhoek, in Ohrigstad, Limpopo province.

Anneke Claassen, 76, and friend Hennie Claassen, 78, were attacked in separate houses on the farm by two or three attackers. Both victims were set afire.

The murder was reported here in June.

The suspect was well known to the victims.

  • 75-year-old Francis Davidson died after being tortured for 13 hours by attackers at his farm in Maclear, Eastern Cape province.

Davidson “was assaulted, tortured, beaten with a blunt object, burned with paraffin, dragged around the garden, tied up and stabbed with knife on the afternoon of 26 April 2023,” according to southafricatoday.net.

The attackers ransacked the house, made themselves dinner, and stole a truck.

The victim was found bound by neighbors who were checking on him. The attack was reported here in June.

He succumbed to his injuries June 13, 2023.

  • Andre du Toit, 54, survived a gunshot wound at a farm in Askham, Northern Cape province.

Reports say Toit was shot as he investigated noise coming from his butcher facility. He returned fire, but there is no indication that the intruder was injured.

Toit was hospitalized in stable condition.

  • A farmer’s wife was assaulted in the Schweizer-Reneke area of North West Province shortly after her husband had left their house.

The woman was struck in the head with a metal bar while the assailants demanded access to the safe. The intruders made off with firearms, but, as they were searching the house, the victim managed to flee and contact neighbors.

One of the two assailants was captured. The victim received stitches for her head wound.

  • Josef Payne, 71, was found murdered at his farm near Standerton, Mpumalanga province.

A farm worker discovered the victim upon concern he had not come out of his home.

Payne was found bound and with abdominal wounds. His safe was open.

  • Pierre and Belinda de Kock were found murdered on their farm near Piketberg, Western Cape province.

The couple were discovered by a farm worker.

Nothing appears to have been stolen.

  • A farm manager was fatally shot at his home in Cookhouse in the Eastern Cape province.

The victim was killed after two assailants demanded cell phones and keys to a vehicle.

A 38-year-old suspect was arrested the following day.
