Above, men have already been arrested in England for quoting Winston Churchill...

H/T, ZeroHedge, for The Tower For Twitter? UK Minister Calls For Jailing Social Media Bosses Who Do Not Censor Speech, Saturday, April 22, 2023. This reproduced a post by Jonathan Turley on his blog the previous day. For anyone who is aware of the political traditions of the U.K. the story is stunning.

Now, UK Technology and Science Secretary Michelle Donelan has announced plans to jail social media executives if they fail to censor so-called “harmful” content on their websites….

Donelan is seeking speech arrests under the UK’s Online Safety Bill, a draconian censorship bill that would effectively ban end-to-end encryption for private internet users.

(For end-to-end encryption see here.)

The sanctions for companies caught up in this witch hunt are grotesque. Besides jail for their executives

According to a report by The Telegraph, companies will also face fines of up to 10 per cent of their global revenue should they dare to ignore Britain’s demands to preemptively delete or obscure posts violating its coming censorship regime.

If these measures are enforceable, it is hard to see how any social media outfit could risk carrying political commentary in Britain.

One wonders what the U.K. Deep State is planning for the British if these fiendish measures are needed. Would the Nazis or the Soviets have done more?

Within living memory, pride in the tradition of Free Speech went right across the political spectrum in Britain. Now a “Conservative” hack can be found to propose this atrocity. I am not surprised that Michelle Donelan was against Brexit and supported Nadhim Zahawi , a Kurd, and then Rishi Sunak, a Hindu, for Prime Minister. Tradition is evidently not attractive to her.

Jonathan Turley sadly comments

The decline of free speech in the United Kingdom has long been a concern for free speech advocates. A man was convicted for sending a tweet while drunk referring to dead soldiers. Another was arrested for an anti-police t-shirt. Another was arrested for calling the Irish boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend a “leprechaun.”

These might seem too comic to take seriously, which would be a mistake. But there is worse. On May 26, 2021 Turley posted a discussion of.

Nicholas Brock, 52… The neo-Nazi was given a four-year sentence for what the court called his “toxic ideology” based on the contents of the home he shared with his mother in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

The Judge admitted

It is submitted on your behalf…there was no preparation for any act, and that you are in your 50s, walk with a stick there was no evidence of disseminating to others. I do not sentence you for your political views…

But then lapsed into the meaningless verbiage increasingly employed in denying men on the Right the protection of the law.

How soon before Confederate memorabilia triggers jail sentences in the U.S.?

The UK Judiciary managed to find a way to imprison Brock for doing no more than sitting at home with unfashionable memorabilia thinking unfashionable thoughts

I concur with Peter Brimelow: DUNKIRK: “People Should Be Hung From Lampposts, They Should Be Burned Alive, For What They’ve Done To Britain.”
